Fort Herkimer Church


(below left) One of the oldest churches in New York State, built between 1753 and 1767. Used as a fortified stronghold during the French and Indian War and the American Revolution. Entered on the National Register of Historic Places, 1972.

(below right) The unique decoration of the high pulpit installed during the 1812-1814 renovations that also included a second story balcony, belfry and sealing the north door.
